Atlanta-based Heavy Metal giants, Mastodon, have just returned to the recording studio in preparation for a new full-length album. It's the first day of tracking for what looks like drums and guitars! Today, the Mastodudes (excluding Troy Sanders), have shared photos and videos - on their personal Instagram pages - of behind-the-scenes work on the album. It has expected for a mid-2017 release and rumoured to be the band's first double-LP. Guitarist, Brent Hinds, recently spoke to Guitar World about an update on the bands status: “It’s shaping up to be a double album... One is an album I wrote myself and recorded with Brann [Dailor] and Troy." Brent stated that his material is about a horrible break-up he had. He calls it 'Cold Dark Places' and compares it to the likes of their 2009 record, 'Crack the Skye'; being very "spooky" and "ethereal". With many old-school fans hoping for a return to their older material, most will be pleased to hear that Brendan O'Brien is returning as the Producer for this effort. He has worked with the likes of Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Wolfmother and newer AC/DC. He also recorded and mixed Crack the Skye - which is personally my favourite Mastodon album. The band have been touring for 2014's 'Once More 'Round the Sun' for over two years now, we're all ready for a new album! These guys never cease to keep things fresh and interesting and I cannot wait to see what they have up their sleeves! What do you guys think? What's your favourite Mastodon album? What was the first track you hear by them?

Ghost Release New Single - Square Hammer - Ahead Of Brand New Surprise EP, Entitled 'Popestar'9/12/2016 Swedish occult-rockers, Ghost, have just sent a Nameless Ghoul on a visit to Sirius XM's Octane station in order release an exclusive brand new single, entitled 'Square Hammer' for their forthcoming EP - Popestar - which is expected to be released this Friday, on September 16th - the same day their North American Popestar 2016 tour begins. Ghost will be returning to the US and Canada one more, starting this Friday going through November. These guys made their debut in 2010, playing tons of European Summer festivals. Since then, they have been non-stop touring North American and the UK, with the exception of recording an album/EP every couple of years. Their breakthrough amongst the Heavy Metal community came with their 2013 sophomore album, Infestissumam. Because it featured so many hits (Year Zero, Secular Haze, Monstrance Clock) and they had been working hard at developing a North American fanbase, they suddenly became the biggest thing since sliced bread. Die-hard fans, calling ourselves "children of the clergy" began popping up left, right and centre! They even won their first grammy at the beginning of the year for their Meliora single, 'He is'. This band is most easily recognizeable by their captivating image. 6 members. 5 Nameless Ghouls - whom are only distinguishable by the symbols on their robes and the instruments they play; all wearing the same mask. Their leader and frontman, Papa Emeritus is a character who resembles a skeleton Pope. He's very charming! A refreshing and curious take on many stage identities we have seen before (think KISS or Misfits). Each album cycle, a new Papa is introduced. With this rumoured EP release, fans are speculating about the introduction of Papa Emeritus IV. Ghost are a force to be reckoned with. I have been lucky enough to meet these lovely guys and see them in the States and right here in Toronto. They put on a hell of a show and play some fantastic music. I would recommend them to absolutely any music fan, because they don't only play Metal - Square Hammer proves this statement. Think a mixture of the 1980s, Goth Rock, Doom Metal and even Synthpop. They have a very unique and addicting sound. If you're local, they'll be stopping by the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Wednesday, November 9th. Tickets are pretty few and far between at this point, but this is a show you do NOT want to miss! Check out Square Hammer here on a very dedicated fansite for Ghost - www.childrenofghost.com/2016/09/12/stream-ghosts-new-song-square-hammer/ Cheers, A Nameless Child of Toronto Entertainment One UK has just released a captivating full-length trailer for the newest and highly-anticipated forthcoming Oasis documentary - 'Supersonic'. The movie documents the rise and fall of the 90s Manchester Britpop giants, Oasis. A band which were heavily inspired by the Madchester scene. They took alternative music to a whole new level and left the UK in a manic state, which hadn't been seen since Beatlemania. The key focus being the highlights of triumph, turmoil and the crumbling relationship between headcase brothers, Noel and Liam Gallagher, which led the band to it's inevitable deathbed. Supersonic is directed by Mat Whitecross and has already received a flood of positive appraisal from critics and several major media outlets alike. The bar is already set high for Oasis fans with this flick following the Definitely, Maybe DVD. Personally, I love Oasis. Can't stand the Gallaghers, but I'm really looking forward to this "biopic". Share your favourite quote from Noel or Liam, or let us know your experience with this band and how they've affected your musical taste. What's their best album in your opinion? Check out Liam's first interview in 3 years - from Q Magazine. It's bloody hilarious and if you were unaware of how massive of a tit he is, well, here you go. pitchfork.com/news/67736-liam-gallaghers-first-interview-in-3-years-is-everything-you-want-it-to-be/ Up in the Sky, Adam |
